Local autonomy must be considered in PDP implementation – Mandanas

BATANGAS City – “IN implementing the Philippine Development Plan (PDP), local autonomy must be primarily considered because the success of every national program is always anchored on whether or not they are well coordinated to local constituency and is responsive to the needs in the countryside.”

Thus, emphasized by Batangas governor and concurrent Chairman of the Regional Development Council 4 during the PDP Roadshow in Batangas last Friday, July 28.

“This is the real essence of federalism. Pagbubukod-bukod, hindi pagkakanya-kanya,” Mandanas stressed.

The governor also said that there are programs of the national government in the past that did not meet its objectives in an optimum level due to some inconsistencies with regards to proper coordination and sometimes duplication of programs with the local government units. Thus, the need for proper consultation and bench-marking on what projects would be truly responsive to the needs of the locals.

The PDP Roadshow in CALABARZON offered an array of free services and activities which the public availed and enjoyed all throughout that day with the kiosks and booths of different products and services strategically positioned at the capitol grounds.

It is a nationwide event which aims to increase and broaden public awareness on the PDP and get the support of local stakeholders to achieve the goals and objectives of the plan. The Calabarzon Regional Development Plan 2017-2022 was also launched during the roadshow.

Dr. Rosemarie G. Edillion, NEDA Undersecretary for Policy and Planning emphasized the important role of the LGUs to achieve national and regional development goals on inclusive growth, a high trust society, and a globally-competitive knowledge economy.

Edillion also pointed out that being at the forefront of service delivery, the LGU projects can help regain people’s trust in public institutions, expand access to economic opportunities, enhance human capital development through quality health care and education, accelerate strategic infrastructure development, and ensure peace, order and a healthy environment, among other.|JOENALD MEDINA RAYOS
